Is Cloudflare down right now?

Checking Cloudflare…

Reading the latest checks from UptimeTea monitors…

Cloudflare sits in front of a large share of the web as CDN, DNS and firewall. When it has a bad day, millions of unrelated sites show its error pages.

What we are checking

These are real UptimeTea monitors, not a scrape of Cloudflare's own status page. Each is requested every minute from several locations, and a failure is re-verified from an independent location before it counts.

Checking…

Cloudflare.com

Cloudflare's own website, served through its edge network like a customer site.

Checking…

Cloudflare CDN (cdnjs)

cdnjs.cloudflare.com, the public library CDN. A good proxy for whether the edge is serving cached content.

Second opinion: Cloudflare's official status page. Vendors update it after they confirm an incident, which is usually minutes after it starts.

What to do when Cloudflare is down

  1. 1

    Read the error page

Cloudflare error codes tell you who is at fault. 52x errors mean Cloudflare could not reach your origin server. A 1xxx error or a page saying Cloudflare itself is having trouble means the edge is the problem.

  2. 2

    Check your origin directly

If your server answers on its own IP but not through Cloudflare, the outage is upstream of you. If the origin is down too, fix that first.

  3. 3

Do not flip DNS in a panic

Pointing DNS straight at your origin exposes its IP and takes as long to propagate as the outage usually lasts. Wait for the official status page unless the incident is regional and long.

Frequently asked questions

How do you know if Cloudflare is down?
UptimeTea monitors load cloudflare.com and cdnjs.cloudflare.com every minute from several locations. Both are served from Cloudflare's edge, so a widespread edge problem shows up here quickly.
My site shows a Cloudflare error. Is Cloudflare down?
Not necessarily. Error 521, 522 and 523 mean Cloudflare is fine but cannot reach your server. Error 502 or 504 with a Cloudflare branded page can be either. Compare with the monitors above and the official status page.
Is Cloudflare DNS (1.1.1.1) affected when Cloudflare is down?
Usually not. The 1.1.1.1 resolver, the CDN, Workers and the dashboard are separate systems and are listed separately on Cloudflare's status page. Most incidents affect one of them.
Can I get an alert when my site behind Cloudflare goes down?
Yes. Monitor your own site in UptimeTea and you are told the moment it fails, whoever is at fault. Checks from multiple locations also show whether an outage is regional.
